Abstract

This study reviews 113 Web of Science-indexed scholarly publications published between 2012 and May 2025 to examine how Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) methods are applied in sustainable healthcare management. The reviewed literature was classified into five domains: service quality and health-service evaluation, waste management, supply chain and procurement, facility location planning, and energy efficiency. Service quality and health-service evaluation was the most frequently studied domain (46.0%), followed by waste management (23.0%) and supply chain and procurement (18.6%). AHP (33 publications), TOPSIS (21), and DEMATEL (16) were the most frequently applied methods, and fuzzy or fuzzy-based approaches were used in 54 publications (47.8%). Economic and social sustainability dimensions were addressed more often than environmental considerations, which appeared in 54.9% of the reviewed publications, and 45 publications (39.8%) jointly incorporated the economic, environmental, and social dimensions. However, population-level resilience, community vulnerability, occupational safety, and equity-sensitive access were rarely formulated as explicit decision criteria. These findings highlight the need for more data-driven, equity-sensitive, and policy-oriented MCDM frameworks, particularly ones that leverage AI-supported decision systems, circular healthcare models, renewable-energy integration, and resilient healthcare supply chains.
